Perlite Concrete Calculator: Weight, Heat and Cooling Savings vs Brickbat Coba
Use this calculator to compare perlite lightweight concrete with what you use today: brickbat coba, AAC block coba, cement screed, foam concrete, EPS concrete, or XPS, EPS and PU foam boards with a screed.
Pick what you are building, enter the area and thicknesses, and it shows the dead load taken off the structure. For roofs and terraces, it also shows the heat coming through the roof, the ceiling temperature at peak, and the cooling and electricity you save every year.
How to use it
Roof / terrace insulation: compare a light insulating grade (400 to 600 kg/m³) with coba or foam boards.
Terrace slope fill: compare the 1,200 grade with brickbat or AAC block coba at the same thickness.
Floor screed: compare with a cement screed or mortar bed at your floor build-up thickness.
Sunk fill: compare with brickbat or AAC block fill at your sunk depth.
Where the numbers come from
Thermal conductivity of perlite concrete is lab-tested by PSG TECHS COE INDUTECH (ASTM C518-21) at 400, 500, 600, 700, 900 and 1,200 kg/m³.
Brickbat coba is taken at about 1,965 kg/m³, from IS 875 (Part 1) unit weights.
Roof heat is worked out by the steady-state sol-air method at the peak hour. It is a fair comparison between systems, not a full energy simulation.
